Str8
from the Boogie Down is the rap duo Russian Roulette, or R & R.
These 2 South Bronx bombers spit reality rap with a twist. The group
consists of Sha Drama-aka Sha-Boogie, & Dallas Rok-aka Hannibal.
While Sha is very lyrical, Dallas paints a very grim picture of what
the youth is going through in Ghetto America.
The name, Russian Roulette, was actually selected by R&R's founding
member Mischief-aka G'Bolo. R & R started in '96. The members were
Mischief, Mr. Limp, & Caution. By the time '97 had rolled in, the
group was just Mischief. But he had a new member. This was Sha Drama.
In '98, Mischief left the group for personal reasons. So in '99, Dallas
Rok took Mischief's place. & that's the current line up: Drama &
Rok.
Sha Drama:
Sha has been rapping for 10 years, but he made his talent known when
he spit his 1st verse on F** k The World'. Sha is one of the greatest
lyricist that's never been heard by the mainstream. He really has a
knack of putting complex metaphors in verses & using extensive vocabulary.
But what's Sha's biggest attribute is his speech. His style of talk
will affect the rap industry for years to come. He has numerous solo
songs & as a member of R & R, he's completed approximately 6-7
albums. Sha Drama will eventually go down in history as one of the rap
underground's elite MC's.
Dallas Rok:
Dallas is a superstar in the making. With his good looks & calm
demeanor, he will definitely have "mass appeal". Dallas started
coming to the "Attic" (Urban Renewal's Studio) with Sha when
he was 16 years old. He was also responsible for introducing Sha to
Mischief. Dallas also lived in the 'Infamous' Queensbridge Projects.
At that time, he really didn't take rapping seriously. When he came
back to the Bronx in '99, Dallas was ready to show the world what he
had & with Mischief gone, he had some big shoes to fill. Fortunately,
he's filled them nicely. Dallas came to the table with pictures of street
life that would scare the mainstream to bits & pieces. Dallas has
a way to paint memory of "ghetto folklure" in the heads of
everyone. His mixture of "Queens-Bronx" rap style will have
the most reluctant rap listener listening to every word & praising
his "Ghetto Gospel" ministries. Dallas will eventually appeal
to both mainstream & hardcore fans.
Epilogue:
R & R's lyrics & message epitomizes street vernacular &
street life. The industry's fickled nowadays. What we need is real rap
& creativity. So for all of the listeners who are tired of what
corporate sponsors dictate the radio stations to play, please support
"true" hip-hop. We're all that we've got.
Peace
