One
of the greatest producers that's never been heard of in the mainstream
is South Bronx's own A-Weapons. He does every genre of music, & is
very gifted when it comes to ALL aspects of music. As head producer of
Russian Roulette, DeeMac, & Urban Renewal, he's NOW considered an
O.G. in the R&B game.
A has been doing music since 4-5 years old. He was singing in church since
5 years old. When he was 8, he learned the piano. At 10, he learned the
saxophone. While in church, (A's father is an ordained minister), he learned
a little bass, guitar, & drums. In high school he played in bands
& did talent shows here & there. At 18, he wrote his 1st song,
"Girl You Must Be Mad". He also formed his 1st group with an
older singer. The group was named Transe & they actually had a small
following with their MILD hit "Come With Me 2 My Fireplace".
In 1988, Drew Love, the other singer, left the group for a solo career.
In 1989, A met P-Funk. P was a very good writer with good ideas for music.
So along with A, P got together some neighborhood guys & formed Chapter
4. it was always a neighborhood group. In 1992, the OFFICIAL lineup was
formed after a carousel of people came & went. The group was then
named Urban Renewal. In 1995 A actually had a hit promo for HOT97, (a
New York radio station), & it appeared that he was going to the top.
The group disbanded in 1996, & officially disbanded in 1998. In 1995.
A decided to just produce for others. So Russian Roulette, Mislead Souls,
WildStyle, Mikell, DeeMac, & Bloodose are his credits musically, lyircally,
& vocally. To date, A is still doing this music & eventually he'll
get that illusive brass ring.
Epilogue:
A is a dying breed. He is one of the last TRUE artists out there. The
industry no longer cares about talent. Their concern is marketability.
You can't really blame ANY business from wanting to do what it takes to
make money, but at WHAT price should any artist pay just to lace a record
label's pockets. Real music is what will eventually come back. So be on
the look out for Urban Renewal Enterprises. We're coming. & once we're
in, WE'RE NOT GOING TO LEAVE ANYTIME SOON!!
Peace
